Aldergrove Seniors who were beaten 4-21 – 2-11 by a very strong St. Galls side tonight in Division 1. While not our best day credit must be given to the team for keeping going in the second half with great heart, the lads gave their all to the end and were rewarded for their improved second half display with two expertly taken goals; one a clinical close range volley on the run from minor star Seamas McGarry and the other a superb individual goal for Brian ‘Barney’ McQuillan.
However the late flurry was perhaps one of the few positives Aldergrove can take from an otherwise disappointing game in which they would have hoped to do much better in having came so close to beating St. Galls at home earlier this year.
With just over two and a half weeks to go now to the much anticipated Championship clash with Cregan, Aldergrove know that they have work to do but will be assured of a great support wherever they go. Once again tonight Aldergrove were backed in numbers by their travelling faithful, as they have been all season.
The increase in crowds at games this year has been great to see from a club perspective and is testament to the senior team’s progress and playing style.
One of the main factors of this has been the growing interest among our younger players to attend the games, particularly at home games, but also to those travelling around the county religiously to follow their team, with underage players clearly taking great pride in following their senior team, aspiring to one day make it there themselves.
