Gutted after last night’s result. Nothing worse than getting beat in a match you should have won comfortably. Wides tally must have been at least 12 to 3? To concede a last minute goal is criminal (but we did the same against Lamh Dearg?). There were good points and bad points to be taken from the game. Good – a) we were not cleared out at midfield as has happened on too many occasions this year (gotta be something to do with MJ & CMcC playing) b) we were able to compete throughout the pitch physically against an experienced, relatively big, aggressive team c) Some forward displayed huger for the ball missing in previous game. Now for the bad – a) Kicked ourselves out of it with poor shot selection & shooting b) showed unacceptable naivety in losing a game in the last minute which should have been won well before then c) we appear to play the Arsenal style of Gaelic football at times looks great but with limited end product – need to get a bit more cynical (and clinical) - better to win ugly than lose pretty (like our opposition are doing) d) some players simply not good enough or not willing to do what it takes to win games at this level like never giving up a perceived ‘lost cause’ ball, working hard for the full term, and to be brutally honest taking ball without looking round to see who might tackle them! It’s clear that we have probably 12-13 players capable of competing with any team at this level (got away with it last year against lower class opposition) but the 2-3 not pulling their weight are dragging the team down and need to take a serious look at themselves. All not doom and gloom – the three games we lost have been to possibly the three top teams in the division but we need to up our game if we have realistic goals of competing.

I have a few photos taken at St. James'' P.S Aldergrove during the 1950''s & 60''s when my Aunt Miss Maureen Falls was a teacher. I would like to forward this photos to the school if it is still operational or to someone working on the history of the local area if it isn''t. I would be grateful if someone could email me with the information I require to jmacoscar@aol.com. Thank you. John

At the match tonight there and thought the seniors played very well second half against a strong Rossa team. We were just unlucky at the end not to win having came from behind to lead for much of the second half. A great battling performance from the lads, and plenty of encouraging signs for the rest of the season, keep it up lads this can be a very good year for the Grove in Div 2. Grove Abu

Martin & Admin, you say in your reply that Gorts supplied the referee? Did both teams not toss for a referee as is the required stipulation in the County.

Admin Reply - Yes there was a toss and Gorts won the toss and supplied the referee. Still unacceptable for a Div 2 game and unsatisfactory position to put the ref from Gorts in.

World Record Attempt This Sunday 9th Glenavy are attempting to make a World record for the biggest Gaelic Football training session ever. It would be great if some of the local communities came along and joined in as it is open to everyone, grannies, granddads, mums, dads and youth. We appreciate any support and it will be a good days entertainment as the record attempt is taking place in the middle of our annual Fun Day. Everyone should be registered by 2.30 as the World Record attempt starts at 3.00 pm and must run for half an hour. So come along and get your name in the Guinness World record book. Many thanks.

I''d like to thank Garrett for explaining yesterday, Knowing Garrett, I knew it was nothing to do with him. We need to tackle this County rule as a club. I have spoken to players from all over Ulster who laughed at the thought of a ref refereeing his own club. This is a ridiculous rule which applies to Antrim and (as far as I can see) no other Ulster county.

Admin Reply - Indeed - It is not on that a Div 2 game has no referee and that Gorts supplied the ref - He was left in a no win situation.

Would just like to post on the site to the players and mentors involved in the Senior Football game yesterday against Gortnamona so that there is now mis-understanding or blame attached to myself. I was originally listed on the county website as the referee for the game, my name was removed from the website mid-week. However the normal procedure for appointments is that you receive a text to your mobile to confirm your appointment 4-5 days before the game, this text also hits your mobile normally 1 hour before the game to enable you to reply with the final result. That is the standard notification method for all games. At no time this week or yesterday did I receive any texts notifying me of this appointment, I did get a call from Grumpo at 3.10 pm yesterday asking me where i was, but it was already committed and could do nothing. I can only assume that there is a problem with the the notification system linking with the county website and other referees may have experienced this yesterday, can I also say that the referees committee work tirelessly week in week out and are very committed people and this probably has been a technical problem that they may not have been aware of until yesterday. Apologies to everyone involved, I take all my appointments to games very seriously and appreciate how frustrating this must have been to everyone yesterday.

Was at thegames today and came away a bit downhearted. When things go against us (like the ref not showing) we can go into our shells and are beat before we start. Don''t know why but we seem to lack leadership on the field at times with players unwilling or unable to take responsibility. There is definitely a degree of mental frailty/lack of confidence (as shown last year v''s St Enda''s in the C''Ship). Knowing the players abilities frst-hand we have badly under-performed so far this year with the exception of the Ulster league v''s Lamh Dearg (can''t count Dunloy match as, in hindsight, they are way below the standard required). With Matt & Colm hopefully back this should add a degree of steel to add to the undouted flair/talent in the sqaud. Am convinced we can still do ourselves justice in this division but need to believe we are as good as the oppositionand dig deep when things don''t go our way.
