I love it when a plan comes together! On Tuesday the Aldergrove under 17s and a few minors turned a league defeat by 14 points into a 7 point championship win over hot favourites Moneyglass. Moneyglass had the best of the opening chances going into a 2 point lead before Aidan Reilly (3) and Gerard Mc Quillan (2), all from play saw Aldergrove level at the break at five points each. The Aldergrove defence of Gorman and Mc Keown Burke, Brazier and Fleeton was superb in their marking and tackling and Andy Flood produced a man of the match performance at sweeper providing an outlet for the defence which Moneyglass had no answer to. Indeed Moneyglass scored two of their first half five from frees while Aldergrove hit six first half wides. In the second half a great move straight through the middle involving Ciaran Mc Conville, captain Marty Walsh, Conleth Hendron and Mick Mc Garrity saw the under 16 player plant the ball in the bottom corner for the opening score of the half which was added to by points from Conleth Hendron and Gerard Mc Quillan before Moneyglass added two from frees. When Reilly added a point and Mc Quillan blasted Aldergrove''s second goal the game looked all over. But Moneyglass added two more points and were then awarded a soft penalty which was brilliantly saved by Josh Cormican low down to his left. Moneyglass added a free to their score before Kris Wilson and another under 16 player Donal Doherty finished off the scoring. Key to this performance was the tactical management by Stevie Graham Paul Mallon and Mickey Browne particualrly in the roles they set out for Flood, Fleeton, Mc Conville and Doherty who defensively soaked up the best that Moneyglass could offer and returned it with interest in their counter attacks.

U12s/14s v Antrim (A) 02-07-10
The Under 12s came from behind on Friday night to beat a decent Antrim side by 8 points in what was a fantastic team display by the young Aldergrove side. Despite having a number of key players missing the redmen ran out 1-10 - 1-02 winners having trailed by 1-0 - 0-02 points at the break. ALthough our lads dominated the possession the Antrim backs worked hard to reduce ALdergrove to just four shooting opporutnites, of which two were points, in a tight first half. However a spirited second half fight back was evident from the first whistle of the second half with Callum QUinn and the two young McKennas'' dominating the game in and around the middle of the park, getting the better of thier markers, passing the ball well into the forward line and guarding their backline superbly. Playing on a bigger sized pitch than normal due both sides onlt having 14 a-side, Aldergrove began to use the open spaces more constructively in the second half- Daryl McVeigh and Anthony Brown attacked well from wing half positons and supplied Bobby Burns, Ciaran Hannan and Daire Lyons with some excellent balls to put the game beyond Antrim''s reach. Further scores from Daryl Mc Veigh and Odhran McKenna late on added to two second half Bobby Burns points'' to give the Aldergrove side a comfortable win. This was a fantastic response from the 12s who bounced back from their dissapointment of losing in the final of the Glenavy tournament to win their next two league game against St Endas on Friday past and Antrim on Friday. The U14s also continued their recent outstanidng form with a brilliant display against Antrim. ALso missing key men such as Ryan Owens and Seamas McGarry through injury, the U14 reds always looked like winning a game which they virtually had won by half time due to an excellent first half showing all over the park. With Eamon McCourt and James Trowlen winning the midfield battle, Adam Quinn and Tomas O'' Caallaghan putting in commanding perfrormaces once again and Peter McKenna in senseational form in centre half forward, Aldergrove raced into an early lead and took their chances with great aplomb. Before the break Paul Hannan, Paddy Morris, Michael Sheridan, Peter Mc Kenna, James Trowlen and even left half back Michael Brazier were all on the score sheet, with some fine team moves resulting in a series of great scores. The second half continued in much the same way as Aldergrove again dominated the play and refused to let Antrim back into the game, running out 4-14 - 1-03 winners follwong their hugely impressive win over fellow title contenders St Endas. All in all a hugely satisfying performance for the U14s who seem to be going from strength to strength this season with what seems like a disciplined and extremely well talented squad. Luke
